Business Challenge 

The engineering and design firm manages a significant and diverse project portfolio across multiple industries. Tracking project budgets, planning resource utilization, and monitoring financial and schedule performance are all critical factors for ensuring the company’s overall operational efficiency and profitability. 

 

Previously, management decisions were supported by a collection of separate, disconnected reporting tools. These solutions failed to provide a unified and up-to-date view of ongoing projects, as they relied heavily on manual data collection and spreadsheet-based reports. This approach required significant resource investment and increased the likelihood of data inconsistencies and errors. As a result, decision-making was often slow, cumbersome, and not fully data-driven.

Solution 

Abesse was tasked with designing and implementing a unified, data-driven reporting system that provides a comprehensive business overview, enabling CÉH Zrt. to effectively monitor the financial and resource-related progress of its projects. 


The reports are built on an MS SQL–based data warehouse, providing a reliable and structured data source for Power BI visualizations. Data is fed into the warehouse through a complex, custom-developed application by Abesse, which handles data preprocessing, validation, and consolidation in accordance with the defined business logic. 


Abesse’s experts collaborated closely with CÉH’s various professional departments in an interactive development process to design the reports. The resulting system now covers several key business areas, including: 


  • visualization of project portfolio statuses 

  • monitoring of capacity utilization 

  • tracking of cost and schedule performance 

  • support for resource planning and allocation 


The solution integrates seamlessly into the existing Microsoft-based IT environment (Microsoft 365, Azure, SharePoint). The system designed by Abesse provides end-to-end coverage of the entire business process—from project initiation through execution to financial closure—enabling CÉH Zrt. to manage its projects more efficiently and make truly data-driven decisions. 

 

Results 

By making project and resource management data accessible through a unified, transparent structure and Power BI–based reports, the need for manual data collection and report preparation has been significantly reduced. Management decisions have become faster and more data-driven, while project managers can now prioritize resources and manage risks based on real-time, accurate information. 


The system has enabled the entire project portfolio to operate with greater transparency and significantly reduced administrative effort. Managers can now track budget performance with higher accuracy, directly supporting the company’s overall profitability and operational efficiency. 


The Power BI platform can be easily extended with new reports and dashboards, allowing the solution to quickly adapt to the organization’s evolving information needs while ensuring a sustainable, data-driven operation in the long term.
