Business Challenge 

Biotia was seeking a web-based client portal capable of handling large-scale data loads and the volume of patient samples required for DNA sequencing, while also providing support in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Solution 

For Biotia Inc., Abesse developed a complex, cloud-based client portal that supports the entire workflow of DNA sequencing–based diagnostic and research services. The system runs on a native Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure with Terraform-based infrastructure as code, enabling rapid redeployment and scalability. 


The portal supports multiple user roles — including physicians, patients, researchers, and administrators — each with tailored functionalities and permissions. The system manages the entire order workflow, encompassing patient registration, insurance data management, and online payments via Stripe, as well as consent form signing through DocuSign integration. 


A key element of the solution was Abesse’s proprietary development framework, Rappid, which enabled the rapid and efficient creation of business applications. 

The portal’s functionality includes DNA sample uploads, viewing of test results, customizable report generation, and integration with leading cloud storage services such as Google Drive, Microsoft Azure, AWS, and Dropbox.

With the introduction of the portal, Biotia achieved significant operational efficiency

The system is capable of processing hundreds of tests per day, automatically synchronizing with external systems, and ensuring the generation and availability of clinical reports for users. Through the automation of report generation, the need for manual intervention was reduced to a minimum, error rates decreased significantly, and report availability became substantially faster. 


The system includes an audit trail feature that allows administrators to track all changes and provides advanced permission management capabilities. 

The portal is fully compliant with HIPAA and HL7 standards and automatically generates daily ECLRS reports related to COVID-19 testing for submission to the New York State Department of Health. 


The user experience is further enhanced through two-factor authentication, customizable email notifications, and support for multiple payment and report formats.
